The Planet That Changed Direction
The blue planet’s orbit was not a perfect circle.
It traced a broad ellipse around a nearby pale star, drawing closer to its warmth with each revolution before retreating once more into the cold darkness. The pale clouds across its surface changed shape throughout this movement, forming long lines over its deep blue layers.
A single small moon orbited around it.
Whenever the moon crossed the planet’s illuminated side, it shone like a white point. When it reached the dark hemisphere, it merged with the colour of the surface and disappeared from view.
This order had remained unchanged for a very long time.
The planet completed another revolution. When it reached the point at which it should have moved closer to its star, the outer edge of its orbit curved slightly.
At first, the deviation measured only a few kilometres.
During the next revolution, the curve widened. Rather than approaching its star, the planet turned towards a violet cosmic cloud north of its orbit. Its small moon followed the change in movement, but the old orbital path extending behind them remained empty.
The other nearby planets continued their revolutions.
A large sphere with a crimson surface travelled along its narrow path around the bright star. Farther away, a pale violet ringed planet completed its slow rotation. None of their movements changed.
Only the blue planet was leaving.
Stars lay within the violet cloud ahead. White and golden lights shone at different depths between its dark layers, while currents inside the cloud moved slowly in a single direction.
That direction led towards the centre of the distant galaxy.
The galaxy appeared too vast for the darkness surrounding it. Blue, violet and pink arms turned around a radiant core, while fine trails of light separating from its outer layers extended as far as the planets.
The blue planet turned towards the galaxy.
As the light of its star withdrew from the surface, its dark hemisphere did not sink completely into blackness.
There, three white stars not yet visible from anywhere began to shine.
The Flow Towards the Centre
The temperature around the blue planet dropped as it entered the violet cloud.
The cloud’s outer layers were soft and diffuse. Deeper within, the colours darkened, and blue veins passed between pink currents before extending towards the centre of the galaxy.
The planet was not swept along by these currents.
It began travelling in the same direction and at the same speed.
Its small moon continued to orbit it. Yet with every revolution, it remained behind the planet for slightly longer, and its surface appeared dimmer whenever it returned to view.
As the galaxy grew larger, the layers surrounding its luminous core became clearer.
A dark blue ring turned along the outside. Beneath it lay a violet layer moving at greater speed. Pink and white lights intertwined as they approached the centre, making increasingly narrow revolutions around the core.
The blue planet was not the only celestial body moving towards the galaxy.
Small crimson spheres emerged from between the violet clouds. White lights separating from a distant star cluster joined the same flow. Two dark-surfaced planets followed different paths as they approached the centre.
The distances between them remained intact.
None drew closer to another, collided or crossed its orbit. Invisible paths guided each celestial body towards a different point around the galaxy.
The three stars on the blue planet’s dark side multiplied.
First, a faint fourth light appeared. Then five small points, separated by wide distances, began to shine. As the planet rotated, these lights did not pass into its illuminated hemisphere. They remained in the same positions within the darkness.
They were not reflections.
When compared with the surrounding stars, none had a corresponding source. There was no light nearby that could have reached the planet from those positions.
A low vibration spread from the galactic centre.
As it passed through the cosmic clouds, the vibration drew their colours closer together. Blue veins became violet, while pink currents turned white. The shadows across the planets briefly changed direction.
The blue planet’s moon slowed for the first time.
Before completing its revolution, it stopped where it was. Then it moved a few degrees in the opposite direction.
The same change appeared in the other celestial bodies within the flow.
The crimson spheres rotated more slowly. The white lights stretched into fine lines. The stars around the galaxy remained motionless without losing their brightness.
The blue planet continued onwards.
There was no line or surface ahead.
Even so, every movement around it was approaching the same invisible boundary.
The Invisible Boundary
A white star reached the boundary first.
Having separated from the galaxy’s outer layers, it travelled above the blue planet. Its surface pulsed at regular intervals, leaving a slender glow behind it.
When it reached a certain point, the star stopped.
The light behind it caught up. The long glow gradually shortened and gathered around the star once more. Although no barrier was visible ahead, it could travel no farther.
Soon afterwards, a small golden planet reached the same point.
Its movement also ceased.
Then the front layers of the violet clouds spread along the boundary. Instead of advancing, the currents divided to the right and left, forming long curves around the invisible region.
The boundary was not straight.
It extended in a broad arc around the luminous centre of the galaxy. One end disappeared inside the blue clouds, while the other passed behind the dark violet planets.
The stars across the blue planet’s surface grew brighter as it approached.
Dozens of lights now covered its dark hemisphere. Several formed clusters, while others burned alone with great distances between them. A faint blue cloud travelled between these stars across the planet’s surface.
The cloud was moving.
Unlike the white lines in the planet’s own atmosphere, it did not follow the direction of rotation. It flowed through the darkness of the surface towards the centre of the galaxy.
The small moon stopped completely a few kilometres before the boundary.
The blue planet moved away from it.
For the first time, the distance between them began to grow. The moon remained behind as a fixed white point while the blue sphere approached the invisible region alone.
A second vibration spread from the centre of the galaxy.
This time, the sound did not deepen. It silenced every vibration around it.
The movement of the cosmic clouds ceased. The lights across the stars stopped pulsing. The planets no longer rotated. Even the galaxy’s outer arms became fixed within a single moment.
The leading edge of the blue planet touched the boundary.
A fine white line appeared across its surface.
The line rose towards one of its poles, formed a complete ring around the planet and passed between the unknown stars on its dark side.
The surface beyond the ring remained visible.
Yet its light no longer fell towards the galactic centre.
It extended in the opposite direction.
The Cosmic Threshold
The blue planet moved into the invisible boundary.
At first, only a small part of it passed through. The surface ahead of the white ring was illuminated by light travelling away from the radiant core, while the section behind it remained drawn towards the galaxy.
The planet was not moving in two different directions.
It existed within two separate movements at once.
As the boundary travelled across its surface, the clouds within its atmosphere divided. The lines facing the galaxy curved towards the centre. Those passing beyond the threshold opened outwards and began making wider revolutions.
The stars on the dark hemisphere crossed in front of the white ring.
As each one passed through the threshold, it did not separate from the planet’s surface. Its light deepened and found a corresponding point in the cosmic region behind the planet.
First, a single white star ignited in the surrounding space.
Then a second appeared.
The pattern visible across the planet’s surface was gradually taking form in the space beyond the threshold. Whenever a new light appeared, its counterpart on the dark hemisphere faded slightly, though it never vanished completely.
When half of the blue planet had crossed the threshold, the centre of the galaxy changed.
The radiant core appeared smaller between the surrounding pink and white layers. Yet the planet had never been closer to it.
The approaching distance was not narrowing.
The depth beyond the core was expanding.
A second cosmic region opened within the centre of the white and yellow light. Distant star clusters, dark clouds and planets not yet fully defined could be seen through the core.
The galaxy had not become a passage.
No other universe had opened within it.
The visible region belonged to a distant layer of the same cosmos, one whose light had not yet reached this part of space.
The blue planet crossed the threshold completely.
The white ring surrounding its surface closed. Its movement towards the galactic centre ceased, and the planet joined the cosmic flow travelling away from the core.
At the same moment, movement resumed throughout the surrounding region.
The galaxy’s outer arms continued to turn. The stars waiting behind the boundary moved towards the centre. Violet clouds opened along the invisible curve and dispersed in two separate directions.
The small moon was still on the other side of the threshold.
As the blue planet moved away, the moon began travelling again. Instead of returning to its former orbit, it started moving towards the centre of the galaxy.
The stars across the planet’s dark side now occupied the same positions as the real stars around it.
All except one.
The smallest light still had no counterpart anywhere in the cosmos.
The Movement Beyond the Threshold
The flow travelling away from the centre of the galaxy was wider.
The planets within it opened in different directions without drawing closer to one another, while the stars established new distances between themselves. Rather than following narrow paths, the cosmic clouds spread into broad layers.
The blue planet’s rotation accelerated again.
Its dark and illuminated hemispheres exchanged places. The stars that had appeared across its surface before it crossed the threshold now burned in the surrounding space, illuminating the planet’s dark side with their own light during every revolution.
Its small moon remained behind the visible boundary.
It travelled towards the galactic centre, following the same path the blue planet had taken before it. Although the distance between the two celestial bodies continued to grow, their movements remained connected.
Whenever the moon accelerated, the white clouds in the blue planet’s atmosphere became thinner.
Whenever it slowed, the clouds widened once more.
There was no visible path between the two sides of the threshold. Even so, movement continued to pass across the boundary.
The final star remaining on the blue planet’s dark side grew stronger.
It was smaller than the others. A fine blue ring surrounded its white light, and it appeared at the same point on the planet with every rotation.
A search of the nearby star clusters still revealed no corresponding source.
The star became brighter as the galactic centre receded into the distance.
The clouds in the planet’s atmosphere withdrew from around it. A circular dark region opened across the surface, revealing a faint cosmic depth beneath the small light.
This time, the surface was not carrying an image.
The light itself was rising from within.
A nearby violet cosmic cloud sent out a slender current. Before reaching the surface, the current curved and began circling the small star. Then one of the nearby white lights was drawn in the same direction.
A new flow was forming around the blue planet.
It was not yet a galaxy.
It consisted only of a violet cloud, several white stars and a small centre burning across the dark side of a single planet.
In the distance, the Cosmic Threshold could not be seen.
Its position could be recognised only along the broad curve where movement changed direction. On one side, celestial bodies approached the galaxy’s luminous centre. On the other, they opened into new distances.
The blue planet continued travelling within this second movement.
The small star across its surface shone once more. Its light left the planet and found a corresponding point at the centre of the violet cloud surrounding it.
A new white point ignited.
Within the distant galactic core, the same light appeared across the surface of the small moon that had not yet reached the threshold.
The two lights were too far apart ever to touch.
Yet they grew at the same moment.
The Cosmic Threshold remained silent.
But on both sides of the boundary, the same light, still absent from every star map, continued to burn...
