Astral Echo

The Silent Vibration

The first vibration came from the outer boundary of the star system.

No burst of light appeared, nor did any sound travel through the darkness of space. Only a fine glow formed around the most distant blue planet. After circling its entire surface, the glow passed towards the other worlds.

The small white sphere brightened first.

Then the shadowed half of the orange planet became visible.

The star at the centre of the system briefly expanded and returned to an earlier brilliance.

Then every light went dark at once.

The planets continued along their orbits. The temperature of the star remained unchanged. Blue cosmic clouds drifted slowly through the surrounding darkness.

No trace remained.

After a while, the vibration returned.

This time, the same movements unfolded more slowly.

As the glow around the blue planet descended towards its surface, faint lines opened beneath its cloud layers. The shadow of the white sphere turned in the opposite direction. A pink light that did not belong to it appeared upon the orange planet.

The central star expanded once more.

Its light formed a vast ring within the surrounding darkness. For several seconds, other orbits appeared inside it. These were fine lines stretching between the planets, yet they followed none of their movements.

Then the vision closed again.

The second vibration passed through the system and travelled onwards.

The third arrived much later.

But this time, it did not touch the planets.

It stopped within a starless region above the system. A blue point appeared in the darkness. It widened before becoming a long line of light. The glow from the surrounding stars changed direction and began to gather around it.

Pink lights flowed between the blue.

Purple cosmic currents curved around the darkness.

The faint reflection of a distant planet briefly appeared within the starless region.

The vibration was no longer travelling.

It was drawing a boundary around itself.

A Form Between the Stars

A large, curved head appeared first.

Layers of blue light gathered around the darkness, widening above before narrowing below. The stars inside this boundary did not disappear. They continued to move across the surface of the emerging form.

Dark openings appeared on either side of the head.

They were not shadows beyond the reach of light. Glimmers passing around them changed direction, entered the dark surfaces and reappeared as small blue points far within.

Two great eyes opened towards the star system.

Then the neck took shape.

Blue and purple currents extended downwards, joining within a slender body. Arms curved towards either side. Pink stars shone at the tips of long fingers. Below, a cosmic current turned around itself and formed a tapering tail.

The being had no solid outer surface.

Its boundaries could only be recognised by the light of the galaxies and nebulae moving within it. A blue star cluster turned between its shoulders, while a purple cosmic cloud curved beneath its chest. White points traced a narrow orbit around the dark region within its abdomen.

A vast galaxy filled its head.

Its luminous centre burned on the left, while pink and white rings turned through a deep blue void. Planets of different sizes surrounded the galaxy. Purple, orange and blue spheres travelled along separate orbits as small stars illuminated the darkness between them.

The being did not move.

Its long arms remained beside its body, and its black eyes faced the star system. Although the planets within it continued to turn, its outer boundaries remained still.

One of the smaller planets nearby moved closer.

No gravitational force appeared to guide it. It shifted only a few degrees from its orbit and aligned with a blue planet inside the being’s head.

The inner planet brightened.

Its counterpart outside answered with the same light.

A fourth vibration travelled through space.

This time, it did not come from a single point.

The being’s entire body was echoing...

The System Within Its Body

With the fourth vibration, the galaxy inside the being began to turn faster.

The white star at the centre of its head expanded. Its light passed through the blue layers, reached the outside and illuminated the darkness opposite.

The shadow of a great planet appeared within the void.

Its surface could not be seen. Only its curved boundary and the dark forms of two moons orbiting around it were visible. The shadow resembled none of the existing planets.

The purple planet inside the being’s head brightened.

A second shadow opened within the void.

Then the orange sphere shone, revealing a third orbit.

Each light restored the trace of a celestial body that no longer existed within the star system.

Another order slowly emerged within the darkness. The orbits of vanished planets passed through the existing system, and two separate star systems appeared superimposed within the same region of space. A faint star cluster extended from the being’s shoulder and surrounded the distant planets.

A blue nebula opened.

Its clouds first appeared as a fine line before spreading across the upper region of the system. Images of stars that had not yet gone dark remained within it. Pink lights moved through the dark veins of the cloud, briefly revealing a forgotten celestial body with every passage.

The blue planet outside brightened again.

Its clouds parted. Across a dark ocean, the reflection of a great white star appeared, although no such star stood in its sky.

An ancient moon emerged around the orange planet.

Long purple valleys opened across the surface of the white sphere.

The existing worlds were carrying traces of the lost system held within the being.

Yet with every new vision, the being’s body became more transparent.

The stars at its fingertips weakened first. Then the blue currents within its arms grew thin. Dark spaces opened between the white points turning inside its chest.

The galaxy within its head held on to its light.

But the blue boundary surrounding it had begun to tremble.

As the being made the lost system visible, it was losing its own form.

The Unravelling Echo

The fifth vibration arrived with greater force than all the others.

The being’s body bent backwards. The planets within it left their orbits and began to move in different directions. The blue sphere travelled towards the outer boundary of its head, the orange planet towards its body and the small white world towards its left arm.

None of them passed outside.

When they reached the surface, they became light.

The first blue current left the being’s head and reached the planet beyond. A vast ring formed within the planet’s atmosphere. Starlight passing through the ring multiplied and spread across the entire surface.

The second current travelled towards the orange planet.

The third passed into the white sphere.

With every light, an orbit inside the being closed. The planets of the lost system went dark one by one, yet new marks opened across the surfaces of the worlds outside.

The reflection of an ancient star-filled ocean remained upon the blue planet.

A fine line of a moon appeared around the orange world.

The purple valleys of the white sphere settled beneath its surface.

The being’s arms became transparent.

Its fingers separated into stardust.

The cosmic current forming its tail unravelled and spread into the surrounding void. Pink and purple lights briefly followed the ancient orbits before becoming fine rings around the existing planets.

The galaxy inside its head slowed.

Its rings closed one after another. The stars within its outer layers went dark. The bright centre diminished until only a single white point remained.

The being’s great black eyes were still open.

Two blue lights shone within the depth of its left eye, while the pink reflection of a distant star remained in the right. When the final galaxy within its body faded, these lights also began to weaken.

The surrounding shadows withdrew.

The orbits of the vanished planets closed.

The blue nebula dispersed.

The ancient system became invisible once more.

Yet the light it had left behind was now burning upon other worlds.

The being vibrated for the final time.

The movement was neither a call nor a farewell.

It was merely the final repetition of a response that had travelled from somewhere far away...

The Returning Response

The pink reflection within the being’s right eye faded first.

The two blue lights inside its left eye remained for a little longer. One diminished and disappeared into the darkness. The other continued to shine alone at the centre of the eye.

Then it vanished as well.

The cosmic body became entirely transparent.

No distinct boundary remained. Only scattered stars occupied the spaces where its head, arms and curling tail had been. They were still arranged in a pattern that recalled the form to which they had recently belonged.

Slowly, they changed position.

The void closed.

The planets returned to their former orbits. The central star settled into its usual brightness. The surrounding cosmic clouds continued their movement.

The system was silent again.

But it had not returned to its former order.

The star-filled ocean upon the blue planet stretched across its shadowed hemisphere. The fine line of a moon around the orange planet became clearer with every orbit. The purple valleys upon the white sphere held the light of distant stars within them.

The first response came from the blue planet.

A glow travelled from one side of its surface to the other and spread into space. The orange planet answered. Then the white sphere brightened.

Vibrations leaving three different points met at the centre of the star system.

For a moment, a curved boundary resembling the being’s head appeared. No galaxy filled it. No planets could be seen. Only a single blue light remained at the centre of the darkness.

The light moved away.

It passed beyond the system.

After travelling through the darkness between the stars for a long time, it disappeared from view. Yet every celestial body along its path briefly brightened. The light carried its vibration from one system to another, multiplying it as it travelled.

The vanished worlds had not returned.

The trace they left behind was no longer bound to a single cosmic body.

It was finding a response upon new planets, around different stars and throughout distant regions of space.

Much later, in another system beyond the darkness, a blue planet brightened.

Then a white sphere.

Then an orange world.

Three lights met at the same point.

A small blue glow appeared within a starless region.

It did not yet possess a form.

But the first vibration had already begun.

The universe was not bringing the lost systems back.

It was only carrying their echo from star to star...
