Abstract Galaxy
Two Separate Centres
The galaxy above turned with a cold light.
Its blue arms widened around a white core, separating into purple and pink lines as they reached the outer layers. Nebula clouds drifted from its edges in gentle curves, while small stars shone as golden points between them.
The light of the lower galaxy was warmer.
Orange currents rose from its golden core and passed through dark purple rings before extending outwards. Fine lines of stars turned around the galaxy, and a few left the outer rings to travel into the darkness.
The two galaxies rotated in opposite directions.
A vast emptiness lay between them.
Yet they were not separate.
A long stream of energy left the blue arms of the upper galaxy and curved down into the darkness between the two systems. An orange current rose from the lower galaxy in response. The two colours passed through one another at the centre before continuing towards the galaxies to which they did not belong.
When the blue energy reached the warm core below, it turned orange.
When the orange energy entered the cold rings above, it took on a blue glow.
A small purple planet remained at the point where the currents crossed.
The planet seemed unaffected by the pull of either galaxy. It followed no fixed orbit. It turned slowly around itself, holding its position between the blue and orange light.
The energy currents passed on either side of the planet.
Neither touched its surface.
A white star faded within an outer arm of the upper galaxy.
Its light remained in space for several seconds before disappearing completely. At the same moment, a new star ignited within one of the dark rings of the lower galaxy. Its size, colour and vibration were identical to those of the vanished star.
Then a small blue planet left the lower galaxy.
The illuminated line of its orbit remained empty. Several rotations later, a new orbit opened within the outer layer of the upper galaxy, and the same planet appeared there.
The planet had not crossed the void.
It had not been seen within the darkness between the systems.
It had disappeared from one and emerged within the other.
The galaxies were not sending matter to one another.
They were completing the spaces left empty within each other.
The Broken Current
The first change began within the blue stream of energy.
The current leaving the upper galaxy thinned before reaching the crossing point. Part of its light dispersed into the darkness. When the remaining glow reached the lower galaxy, it did not turn orange.
It remained blue.
After circling the warm core several times, it faded.
The orange current continued to move.
Yet its rhythm had also changed. It divided into two separate branches as it rose from the lower galaxy. One travelled towards the galaxy above. The other lost its direction and curved around the purple planet.
A fine orange line appeared across the planet’s surface.
The current immediately withdrew.
The line remained.
Three more stars faded from the blue arms of the upper galaxy. Their counterparts did not appear within the lower system as they had before. Dark regions began to spread from the galaxy’s edge towards its core.
The lower galaxy was also losing light.
One of its orange rings broke apart. The stars within it scattered in different directions. With the blue current weakened, the opening did not close.
Both galaxies began to turn more slowly.
The surrounding nebula clouds curved inwards and closed over the outer arms. The stars beneath the purple layers became fainter. Planetary orbits narrowed and moved towards the cores.
The distance between the galaxies was growing.
As the upper galaxy withdrew, the blue current stretched. As the lower galaxy descended, the orange stream lengthened. The crossing point remained between lights being pulled in opposite directions.
The purple planet held its position.
The energy currents no longer passed beside it.
The blue line touched the planet’s upper hemisphere, while the orange line reached its lower half. The two colours began travelling around the surface in opposing directions. A dark boundary separated them.
The blue rings of the upper galaxy appeared across one side of the planet.
The orange arms of the lower galaxy opened across the other.
The two receding systems were now visible beside one another upon its surface.
Energy had stopped flowing between the galaxies.
The crossing point was now inside the planet.
The Planet Between Them
The purple planet began to rotate more slowly.
The blue and orange lines across its surface did not remain still. With every rotation, they widened and left new patterns of stars within the planet’s dark regions.
A cold core appeared in the northern hemisphere.
Small blue rings began to turn around it. Within them shone the light of stars that had faded from the upper galaxy.
An orange glow opened across the southern hemisphere.
Stars scattered from the lower galaxy reappeared there. Fine golden lines extended across the surface, forming narrow orbits around the core.
The planet was not reflecting the two galaxies.
It was gathering the regions they had lost within itself.
When the upper galaxy lost another outer arm, a new curve of light opened across the planet’s blue hemisphere. When the warm core of the lower galaxy weakened, the orange half burned more brightly.
The planet was not growing.
But the depth behind its surface was expanding.
A fine white line appeared along the boundary between the blue and orange regions. It travelled around the equator until it encircled the entire planet. With every rotation, it rose farther and separated from the surface, becoming a narrow ring.
The ring followed the movement of both galaxies at once.
When the upper galaxy moved, the blue half of the ring brightened. When the lower system turned, the orange half widened. The opposing motions became a single rhythm within the white ring.
The streams between the galaxies went completely dark.
The final fragment of the blue current descended into the planet.
The remaining orange light followed.
No visible path remained between the two systems.
The core of the upper galaxy began to cool.
The light at the centre of the lower galaxy narrowed.
The white ring around the planet accelerated.
With every rotation, the positions of the stars between the galaxies changed. A distant star suddenly appeared beside the planet, while another nearby star was drawn millions of light years away.
Distance was no longer fixed.
Space was folding around the white ring.
The Folding of Distance
When the ring completed its final rotation, the galaxies did not move.
Even so, the void between them narrowed.
The upper system remained in the same position. The lower galaxy also held its place. Yet the darkness separating them began to fold inwards from both ends.
Distant stars drew closer together.
The edges of the nebula clouds joined along the same line.
The blue and orange cores faced one another with no distance left between them.
Then the two galaxies appeared superimposed.
Cold blue arms passed through warm orange rings. The stars did not collide. Each entered the corresponding space within the other system. Blue planets travelled across orange orbits as golden stars began to shine inside layers of purple nebula.
The two galactic cores reached the same point.
White and golden light merged and lost their colours. At the centre, a luminous core appeared that belonged to neither galaxy.
The purple planet remained outside the convergence.
Its white ring expanded and surrounded the overlapping systems. The blue and orange lines gathered upon the planet’s surface rose towards the ring. Each light travelled in the opposite direction from the galaxy where it had begun.
Blue energy flowed upwards from below.
Orange energy descended from above.
The two galaxies began to pass through one another.
Their outer arms exchanged places first.
Then the planets entered the orbits of the opposite system.
Finally, the merged core divided in two. White light moved downwards, while golden light rose.
Space opened again.
The galaxies separated.
But they had exchanged positions.
The orange galaxy now turned above. The blue galaxy had reformed within the cosmic region below. The arms they had lost had returned, and their faded stars were shining along different orbits.
The energy current between them had also reversed.
The blue stream now rose from below, while the orange current descended from above. The two colours met at the centre, passed through the white ring around the purple planet and continued onwards.
The galaxies had not moved closer together.
For a brief moment, the distance between them had simply ceased to exist.
The Invisible Centre
The purple planet began to rotate again.
The galactic patterns across its surface slowly faded. The blue rings withdrew into the shadowed hemisphere. The orange lines narrowed until they became small points of light.
The white ring remained around the planet.
But it was no longer divided into two colours.
It followed the movements of both galaxies with a single radiance.
When the orange galaxy above completed a rotation, the outer arms of the blue system below widened. When the blue galaxy’s core brightened, a new star shone within the upper system.
The current had been restored.
Yet it was no longer possible to determine which galaxy completed the other.
When their orbits were compared, they appeared to be different regions of the same system. When the light of their cores was measured, they seemed to be two separate galaxies. When the distance between them was examined, every measurement produced a different result.
Several stars suggested that millions of light years lay between them.
The energy streams claimed that the distance had never existed.
The purple planet continued to turn silently between them.
The surrounding worlds settled into new orbits. Nebula clouds spread from the outer layers of the galaxies and returned to the darkness. Golden stars shone within regions of purple and deep blue.
The cosmic order grew still.
At that moment, a faint light appeared between the galaxies.
It was neither blue nor orange.
It was the same colour as the white ring around the purple planet.
The light remained a small point at first. Then it began to turn around itself. Fine rings separated from its centre and spread into the darkness. No stars or planets surrounded it yet.
Even so, the galaxies above and below responded to its movement at the same moment.
Their energy currents briefly stopped.
The galaxies did not turn towards the new light.
Yet both of their cores brightened in rhythm with it.
The light within the darkness was not the beginning of a third galaxy.
It was the shared centre that existed where the two galaxies had never been separate.
The purple planet completed another rotation within its white ring.
The orange system above grew faint.
The blue galaxy below became transparent.
For a brief moment, both disappeared.
Only the shared core remained.
Then the galaxies reappeared and continued turning in opposite directions.
Two separate galaxies could be seen within the darkness of space.
But it was no longer possible to determine how many galaxies the vision truly belonged
to...
